I grew up in the Colorado mountains, where I learned to love both the outdoors and public lands. After getting my degree from the University of Colorado School of Journalism, I spent about ten years working for the National Park Service and other federal land managers in a variety of jobs: dispatcher, backcountry ranger, technical writer and editor, and writer/analyst. As my career progressed, I spent more time writing, but it was always for the public domain in the sober voice of the government. Eventually I left the feds to raise my kids and started writing under my own name.
